CURRICULUM OVERVIEW:

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
General Policies:
1. Biblical perspectives will be integrated throughout the curriculum.
2. Student’s individual devotional time is to be encouraged.
3. Development of spiritual discernment through prayer and Bible study will be stressed.
4. Weekly communication will be made to staff and families with up-dates, assignments, and school calendars.
5. Prayer time will be encouraged in early a.m. for grades K-6. Grades 7-12 will open with prayer.
6. Classroom atmospheres will foster individual abilities and teacher creativity.
7. Study skills that include test taking strategies will be fostered.
8. Two mandatory parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled per year.
9. Formal headings on all papers will be required for 3rd-9th grades.
10. Ongoing assessment of individual student needs will occur through testing, teacher observation, and assignments.
11. School-wide community outreach programs will be established annually.
12. Standardized tests upon entry and periodically thereafter will be required.
13. Open house will be scheduled one week before the first day of school.
14. Middle and high school tracking of students will be based on individual abilities.
15. Field trips will be used to enhance the curriculum.
16. State standards will be used to guide the curriculum.
17. Attendance at weekly chapel will be required.

MATHEMATICS OVERVIEW
1.  The use of manipulatives for visual math concepts will be encouraged.
2.  Computer math games will be used to enhance skill levels.
3.  Mastery of basic mathematical facts and properties will be ensured.
4.  Practical mathematical applications to daily living will be promoted.
5.  Problem solving through the frequent use of story problems will be emphasized.
6.  Calculators will be introduced in 5th grade.

LANGUAGE ARTS
1.    Phonics based instruction will be used in the K-6 program.
2.  Students will be equipped with the necessary skills for writing, spelling,   grammar, clarity, and the like.
3.  Writing assignments are to include scripture and/or spiritual principles.
4.   Computers will be provided for word processing, keyboards, and reading.
5.  Manuscript writing style will be used in grades K-2.  Cursive writing style will be used in grades 3-12. 
6.  Types of writing skills, including expository and persuasive writing, will be taught beginning in 4th grade.
7.  Reading, writing and spelling will be assessed individually, and individual programming will be designed as much as possible.
8.  Reading appreciation will be developed through buddy reading, including important persons, daily DEAR (Drop Everything And Read), and SIR Time (Shh, I’m Reading).
9.  A TV Turn Off reward program will be initiated.
10.  Creative reading and writing, including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, plays, making books, and prose, will be stressed.
11.  Literature will include Christian and non‑Christian writings. 
12.  Oral presentations will be required for all grade levels.
13.  Research skills, including outline writing and library use, will be taught.
14.  Communication skills, such as letter writing, and businesses, will be taught.
15.  Latin will be used to enhance vocabulary in grades K-6.  Refresher courses will be offered in grades 7-8.

SCIENCE
1.  Hands-on activities and experiments (looking at cause and effect) will be    emphasized.
2.  God is to be fully integrated into each unit of teaching.
3.  The curriculum used must be true to scripture.
4.  Skills will be developed through research and using displays, flow charts,   reports, and diagrams.
5.  Technology will be used to augment scientific data.
6.  Science fairs are to be encouraged on a voluntary basis.
7.  Creation will be taught as orderly, using patterns.
8.  The scientific process will be stressed by using hypotheses and conclusions.
9.  The study of scientists' lives and contributions will be incorporated.
10.  Caring for God's world through conservation and ecology will be promoted.
11.  Major classifications of study which will be taught are Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physical Science.

HISTORY/GEOGRAPHY
1. Countries, states, capitals, and geographical facts will be memorized.
2. Geography skills, such as map reading and graphs, integrated with countries and the ancient world, will be taught.
3. World history chronologically from creation to the present will be taught.
4. Liberal use of biblical accounts and character-building biographies will be encouraged.
5. An overview of basic governments contrasted with the USA will be provided.
6. American history will include study of the presidents and historical documents.
7. God as the One Who establishes and tears down kingdoms for His purposes will be stressed
8. Current events are to be presented from a Christian perspective.
9. The effect God's people have had on history will be illustrated.

TECHNOLOGY
1.   Technology is to be integrated throughout the curriculum.
2.   Educational software may be used to enhance the curriculum.
3.   All grades will be taught basic word processing and keyboard skills.
4.   Research on the Internet will be available with close supervision.
5.  Specialized computer skills will be introduced, such as clip art, charts, graphs, and banners.
6.   Library skills are to be taught via the computer.
7.   The computer will be used for student publications.

BIBLE
1.   Each student will be encouraged to come to the Father, through the Son, by the convicting power of the Holy Spirit.
2.   Daily scripture reading in context will be provided.
3.  Memorization will be incorporated with spiritual interpretation of, and meditation on, the verses.
4. The complete word of God will be taught as relevant for today, because the Word, Jesus Christ, is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8.)
5. Every word of God must be confirmed in the mouths of two to three witnesses. (Matthew 18:16.)
6.  The emphasis will be on cultivating a mature walk with God.
7.  Individual and corporate prayer and meditation will be encouraged, and children will be taught to articulate their prayers.
8.  Emphasis will be on the truth rather than on heresies and cults.
9. The attributes of God will be taught, such as loving, forgiving, faithful, omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent.
10. Love for God demonstrated by obedience to His Word will be covered.
11. Application of spiritual principles in daily life will be stressed.
12. A spirit of praise through daily songs will be promoted.
13. Jesus Christ, the Word, has been present with God from the beginning, which will be   illustrated through the accounts of Christ’s appearances in the Old Testament.
14. The students will be encouraged to develop a prayer and Rhema journal.

ART
1.   Fundamentals of art, such as perspective, design, dimension, and shapes utilizing the color wheel, will be taught.
2.   A variety of art media will be used.
3.   Students will be encouraged to imitate God's creation in their own drawing.
4.   The students will be familiarized with works of art from the Western culture.
5.    A school based local art fair will be held annually.

MUSIC
1.  The students will be exposed to a variety of instruments, including major instrument   groups.
2.  Skills will be emphasized, including notes, rhythms, and scores.
3.  Students will be trained to sing joyfully and skillfully to the Lord on a regular basis.
4.  Individual pursuit of vocal or instrumental music will be encouraged.
5.  The students will be exposed to dance as part of praising the Lord

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
1.  Activities that develop gross motor skills will be encouraged.
2.  Types of dances, such as folk and ballroom, will be taught to enhance rhythm and coordination.
3.  Conditioning through basic exercises and development of game skills will be taught.
4.  Biblical patterns of behavior through teamwork, sportsmanship, and cooperation will be promoted.
5.  Student participation in all activities will be encouraged.
6.  Students will be encouraged to establish good health and nutritional habits in cooperation with their families.
